Citizens Takeout Notices: How to Review Your Options

A Citizens depopulation notice requires attention to the actual offer form. Citizens says some offers make a policy ineligible to remain, and a policyholder who has a choice must register it by the date on the form. Do not assume a universal deadline from an online article. Citizens personal-lines instructions.

What to collect before deciding

Keep the complete packet, current declarations page, proposed coverage worksheets, and premium estimates together. Ask your agent to explain any item that is absent or unclear. Citizens provides comparison worksheets and estimated renewal premiums for available offers and the Citizens policy.

Create a simple comparison with a column for each offer. Record the insurer, policy form, limits, exclusions, deductibles, estimated premium, and proposed assumption or renewal date. Mark unknown entries as questions instead of filling them with assumptions.

Record your response

Use the response method specified in the official packet or work with your agent. Keep evidence of the submission and ask how to confirm the recorded choice. Contact information printed on a suspicious message should be checked against your existing policy documents or Citizens' official website.

Citizens' current instructions state there is no longer a 30-day post-assumption period to return to Citizens. Read the complete program instructions before relying on a right to reverse a transfer. Citizens policy assumption details.

A notice is specific to the policyholder

For an illustrative example, two neighbors might receive different offers and response dates. That is a hypothetical comparison, not a reported client case. Each person should use their own packet and obtain an explanation of their own eligibility.
